“Politics and Misogyny” – Op/Ed – January 15, 2008

Where have you been Mr. Herbert? Of course women have been treated as objects and second class citizens in America, and they have never gained equality with men in the workplace, or anywhere else for that matter. But when it comes to people being treated badly, you more than almost anyone knows the past and continued plight of African American’s and all minorities in this country.

The idea that you would want to raise gender as a major issue in a campaign already overflowing with major issues is ludicrous. You would never write a piece stating that race should be a major issue in American presidential politics (even though it already is). Everything you say about the treatment of women and girls is absolutely true, and I hope I live to see a day in America when gender, race, religion and sexual preference have nothing to do with the qualities of our elected officias.
