Traitors!

“Traitors!”

A vote of cowardice from Mr. Schumer and Ms. Feinstein! As a long-time resident of New York and a former resident of California I have supported Charles Schumer and Diane Feinstein for most of their careers. That support ends today. I know that both Senators are aware that there are many more suitable candidates than Mr. Mukasey. Could the fact that the Senator Schumer’s wife was a former Mukasey employee have anything to do with his vote?

Senators Schumer and Feinstein are also brilliant lawyers, and they surely understand Mr. Mukasey’s predicament. If the Justice comes out and says that water-boarding is torture, and therefore illegal, he de-facto states that the President and other administration officials broke the law by condoning that awful, immoral practice. Mr. Schumer and Ms. Feinstein have also been around long enough to know that torture by America, in any form, will make our enemies hate us even more, and put our own soldiers at serious risk of being tortured if they are captured.

By voting to support Mr. Bush’s unfortunate choice for Attorney General, both Mr. Schumer and Ms. Feinstein have further encouraged our delusional President that he still has relevance. This is as damaging as an Attorney General who hasn’t the courage to stand up and say yes, water-boarding is torture and the Bush administration must be held to account for engaging in it!

I hope both Senator Schumer and Senator Feinstein get to read this so that they will know that there are many Democrat’s in New York and California who will be working very hard to find suitable replacements for them when their terms are up.
