Fundraising for Kay Barnes...A Response

From Kathy in MO:

I posted last week that I was proud to help fundraising for Kay Barnes who is challenging incumbent Sam Graves in the 6th district of MO. I had a comment on that post from "Anonymous" who said "Sam Graves is a good man and I would just like to say that you can raise all the money in the world but you won't get the hearts of the farmers!!!! GO SAM" I would like to respond to that comment here:
I will say "Go Sam" also, but I would like him to go away and let Missourians have the representation we deserve in Congress! Sam Graves is one of Bush's biggest rubberstamps on nearly every issue. He may as well tell Bush and Cheney to cast his vote for him because he votes how they want him to nearly 100% of the time. The 6th district is a real mixed area and prior to Graves was held by Democrat Pat Danner. About half the voters are urban and half rural. In the rural areas, voters are starting to speak out against the rubberstamp politics of the Republicans. Graves has had Mr. 11% Cheney campaigning with him, and even your farmers are not impressed with that. Kay Barnes may have been a big city mayor but she is from a small rural town, Tarkio, MO, and still has a lot of friends and relatives in the rural areas. An interesting note also is that Republicans in the state asked her to run and some of our co-hosts at our fundraiser were Republicans. He has really divided the party here. Everyone is tired of Sam Graves and his stubborn, strong-arm tactics in this state. He and his hatchet man Jeff Roe are some of the dirtiest campaigners in the business. They ran ads last election of his opponent, Sara Jo Shettles with XXX by her picture saying she had worked for Penthouse. She had sold ads for a science magazine Omni years ago that had some corporate ties to dozens of other magazines. Shettles had only about $100,000 to spend and Graves spent over 10 times that much smearing her. She still got 38% of the vote with almost no advertising! People in urban and rural areas are tired of the Karl Rove style of politics that Graves and the Republicans still subscribe to. They are also taking a closer look at his voting record. For a "rural" guy, he votes nearly 100% of the time with big corporations including big farms, banks, and credit card companies against the little guy. He does not want to preserve Social Security and this has angered a lot of Missourians. He was one of the few holdouts on either side of the aisle to vote with Bush against SCHIP children's health care, and he consistently votes with special interests like the big pharmacy companies. People, even farmers, who want us out of Iraq, are angered at his blind loyalty to Bush. His rural base is waking up to who this guy is and how he operates. Kay Barnes was a huge uniter in the Kansas City area and was very effective at bringing together divergent coalitions to get things done. Yes, we will continue fundraising for her to combat the lies and smear campaign that Graves will mount against her. Too bad the guy can't stand on his record! His time and money won't be spent on how much he has done for Missouri and the nation but it will be used to make her look bad in any way possible. Kay Barnes has a real shot at relieving those of us in the 6th district from the tyrranny that is Sam Graves. GO KAY!!!!
By the way, "anonymous" do you live in the 6th district of MO? I do, and I know it is time for real change here!

Uhm, Graves grew up in Tarkio, not Barnes. If you got that wrong, your readers have to wonder what else is erroneous.

Barnes grew up in St. Joseph, hardly a small town. Even then she left St. Joseph in the late 50s and hasn't been "small town" for over 50 years. But, go ahead and believe the lies if you need to.

I did make a mistake on the places of their birth. My apologies. (At least I am able to admit when I make a mistake unlike anyone in this administration...WMD'S etc???) However, where they were born is irrelevant when looking at their accomplishments. Kay Barnes is considered one of the most effective mayors Kansas City has ever had. She is considered a uniter. On the other hand, Graves and his strong arm stubborn politics has divided his own party in this state. What you call "lies" can easily be verified. They were the ones lying with their terrible smear campaign against Sara Jo Shettles. Their ads made her look like a Penthouse slut. They knew full well that she sold ads for the science magazine OMNI and she had no affiliation with Penthouse. They can't discuss the issues and Graves voting record because it is so dismal. You can check his vote on every issue. He proudly stands with Bush-Cheney against the American people nearly 100% of the time. Whether it is shredding the Constitution or denying children's health care or getting rid of Social Security...the administration can count on him! The people are wise to him, both urban and rural, in our district. That is why he has been ranked one of the most endangered incumbents in the next election! Like you said, "Go Sam!"
