“Obama’s American Idea” – Op/Ed – December 10, 2007
If I started out with a raw lump of clay in one hand, and a list of all the problems our next President will face in the other hand, I would immediately begin to shape the clay into the form of Barack Obama. Not since John F. Kennedy has a candidate been so right for the time, and the time so right for the candidate. Senator Obama is precisely what America needs as we climb out of the morass that will be the legacy of the Bush administration. We do not need the whining of John Edwards about “two America’s”, nor do we want the same tired old Washington politics of Hillary Clinton.
Barack Obama has the right stuff to be President in 2009. He is super smart, tough in a compassionate way, and appears to have the resilience one would need to be the U.S. President in the early twenty-first century. Moreover, Obama sees what we could be and is focused on getting us there through diplomacy, strength of will and dignity. If elected he will at once lift the spirits of the American people and reestablish respect for us around the world.
