“Clinton Is Victor Defeating Obama; McCain Also Wins” – Front Page – January 9, 2008
Hillary Clinton’s surprising win and John McCain’s no-so-surprising victory in the New Hampshire primary have opened this race for President to a very great degree. Senator Clinton narrowly defeated the phenomenon that is Barack Obama, and appeared ecstatic during her speech to her supporters last night. What I found incredulous was Mrs. Clinton saying that she had “found her voice!” After thirty-five years of working to lift people out of poverty and illiteracy, the Senator from New York has discovered what she is all about?
What Hillary Clinton found last night was not “her voice”, but a temporary respite and a reason to stay in the race. There is a stirring in America and Senator Obama has tapped into it in the same way that John Kennedy did in 1960. The fact that Hillary won the women’s vote in New Hampshire will not hold up around the country. Women overwhelmingly distrust her, and the Michele Obama effect, which will be substantial, has yet to be felt.
The idea that Hillary Clinton has just now discovered herself is ridiculous and insulting. The Clinton spin machine has been trying to remake her since Iowa, but it will not last.
